I started my career as a system administrator working with Linux and web technologies, then moved into leading an operations team. Today I work as a DevEx engineer at Materialize, on developer tooling and the deployment of complex applications.

I write here about the things I use every day, and I turn the longer notes into free eBooks.

Experience

  1. November 2021 to Present

    Senior DevEx Engineer, Materialize

    At Materialize, I'm part of the Cloud team, where I focus on empowering developers to use the full potential of our platform. Every day, I work on improving the developer experience by creating tools and resources to help developers get started with Materialize.

    My work also involves deployment operations, a collaborative effort to ensure our platform's stability and reliability, including sharing on-call responsibilities to deliver uninterrupted service. I am the creator of the Materialize Terraform provider, which allows users to manage their database objects effortlessly.

    Additionally, I developed and maintain our Helm chart for deploying the Materialize Kubernetes operator and maintain multiple Terraform modules that simplify Materialize deployments across GCP, AWS, and Azure. I also developed the Materialize CLI, a tool that simplifies the process of interacting with Materialize along with many other integration tools that help developers get started with Materialize.

    Beyond internal initiatives, our engagement with the community remains a cornerstone of our work, as we collaborate with developers to address and resolve challenges together.

  2. August 2019 to Present

    Co-Founder, DevDojo

    DevDojo began as Tony's original creation, his vision and drive setting the foundation for our platform. I joined the journey a bit later, and together we've been forging a special path for developers. I contribute to development, manage our servers, and every collaboration with Tony is a lesson in passion and innovation. While I'm deeply involved with our community, from answering support questions to creating developer-centric content, Tony's foundational work remains the heartbeat of our mission. Together, we're committed to delivering exceptional tools that empower developers everywhere!

  3. August 2019 to October 2021

    DevOps Engineer, DXC Technology

    As a Linux DevOps engineer, I was part of the Big Data and Analytics team, working on various technologies including Shell/Bash, Groovy, Jenkins, Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Git, GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, Ansible, Terraform, and various Linux systems.

  4. July 2018 to August 2019

    Teamlead Operations, Sentia Services, Sentia Group

    I led a team of System Administrators, being actively involved in recruitment and team management. Our responsibilities included supporting Windows Server and Linux systems, web servers, load balancers, databases, VMWare, AWS, Azure, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes. I also organized training sessions and coaching.

  5. June 2014 to July 2018

    System administrator in the Managed Services Division, GoDaddy

    I had an in-depth knowledge of Linux, networking, Apache, load balancing, MySQL, high availability solutions, Nginx, Varnish, Bash scripting, PHP scripting, Git, SVN, cPanel, CentOS, and Puppet.
